| The Mobile Data Computing truck system comes equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and antenna used to calculate the truck’s Latitude and Longitude every second. The exact position of the delivery vehicle can be calculated and displayed on a map on the truck’s touch screen. If the vehicle MDC unit has a real time communications system (cellular or satellite), the vehicle’s current location can be transmitted back to the office and displayed on a workstation map. |
|||
| This process of transmitting all the trucks’ latest locations on a map back at the office is known as Automatic Vehicle Locator or AVL. The program that plots the truck locations on the map is the MoblTec AVL Tracker Program that runs on workstations in the office. |
